Everything We Know

Haunted Chocolatier Release Date

The shortest honest answer is also the most frustrating one: there isn't one. Here is everything we actually know — verified against ConcernedApe's official blog as of August 2026.

The short answer

There is no official release date for Haunted Chocolatier. Eric Barone (a.k.a. ConcernedApe) is developing the game entirely solo, in secret, and has stated publicly — most recently on June 25, 2026 — that he will only release it once he is personally satisfied that every system is fun, polished, and complete. In his own words: “it will come out when it’s done.”

This is not a marketing strategy. ConcernedApe is famously allergic to pre-orders, crowdfunding, and Early Access — he launched Stardew Valley the same way and only announced it when it was nearly finished. Haunted Chocolatier is following the exact same playbook, which means we will not see a locked release window until the game is essentially done.

The latest official statement

“I’m still here, still grinding. Most of the major systems are in. Now I’m stitching the vertical slice together into something coherent. I’ll release it when it’s done — not before.”

The June 2026 update is the most concrete progress signal to date. Vertical slice is game-dev shorthand for a fully playable, end-to-end section of the game — basically proof that all the systems (combat, exploration, chocolate-making, shop, NPC dialogue, day/night cycle) connect and feel good together. Barone says the vertical slice exists; he is now polishing and extending it.

    A Bigger World & Stardew 1.7 Context

    “I’m Still Working Like Always”

    “Still Here, Still Grinding”

Estimated release window (honest guess)

In a 2025 podcast, ConcernedApe said he hoped the game would be out within five years — which fans misread as a 2030 deadline. He clarified in January 2026 that he never committed to that year; “I hope so” was the actual phrasing. So the only honest bracket is:

  • Earliest realistic: late 2027 — only if the vertical-slice polish goes smoothly and he moves into full content production.
  • Most likely: 2028 to 2029 — the standard solo-dev arc for a game of this scope.
  • Latest realistic: 2030 or beyond — only if ConcernedApe decides to add major new systems (which he has historically been tempted to do).

Treat these as educated guesses, not forecasts. The only thing we know for sure is that the game will not ship before it is ready.

Platforms at launch

PC (Windows) is the 100% confirmed primary platform. ConcernedApe has said he intends to bring it to consoles and other platforms “at a later stage,” but nothing is committed or dated. Following the Stardew Valley pattern, expect a console port roughly 6–18 months after the PC release.
